Twitter-HashtagsI would like to share with the national and global community an opportunity to participate in the weekly generation of learning pearls from Emergency Medicine residency conferences. The majority of U.S. EM residencies gather faculty and residents together on a weekly basis for a half-day of education on material covering the basics of EM education. This is happening in isolated silos at the individual learning institutions. And up until now it was difficult to share the wealth of knowledge gained outside of the learning institutions in real-time.

New hashtag #EMConf

A few residents, fellows, and faculty active in the EM academic Twitter community have banded together to create the concept of #EMConf. The goal of the hashtag is to bring together learning pearls that are tweeted out from weekly resident conferences. This will allow for the national and international community to share in the learning process.

Join the conversation

It is easy to join this initiative. Simply use your Twitter account (or start one!) and start tweeting. We encourage everyone to assign the hashtag #EMConf to each of the tweets in order to make it easy to find and share. Anyone can participate — medical students, residents, and faculty worldwide. We have already started the conversation, which has been archived thanks to David Marcus (@EMIMdoc) at http://foamfeeds.blogspot.com/. This blog feed holds all the tweets that are linked to #EMConf.

Amongst the eclectic family of social media, Twitter is the one modality that I find myself turning to more and more as the ultimate source of staying up to date on emerging concepts in EM and medical education. Let’s help to also turn it to valuable source of resident EM education!
