Essentials of Emergency MedicineWho has NOT heard of the Essentials of Emergency Medicine (EEM) conference? It is one of the largest live EM educational conferences in the world with over 2,000 attendees that I have had the pleasure to speak at a few times. The conference planners, led by Dr. Paul Jhun and Dr. Mel Herbert, are creating an amazing opportunity for U.S. EM residents to attend their upcoming EEM conference at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas (October 13-15, 2015).

EEM Education Fellowship

EEM is offering a mini-fellowship to eligible residents within the United States. Those selected to participate will receive:

  • FREE conference registration
  • FREE 4-night hotel stay at the Cosmopolitan Hotel
  • A travel stipend

As part of the EEM staff, fellows will get a rare opportunity to experience the behind-the-scenes work associated with developing and producing one of the world’s largest and best EM educational conferences. Fellow responsibilities will include online chat moderation, social media management, CME preparation, research projects, and more. Perhaps the greatest benefit will be the opportunity to interact directly with the renowned EEM faculty – master educators and wonderful individuals.

Application Process

We at ALiEM are launching this contest in conjunction with Dr. Scott Weingart at EMCrit with one winner selected from each site. You can only apply either on ALiEM or EMCrit. What’s the primary difference between the two contests? ALiEM’s submissions application involves writing a blog post, and EMCrit’s involves creating a video.

For ALiEM applicants, complete the application form below and submit a blog post on anything clinically or educationally relevant to EM providers. This may be a short clinical pearl, topic review, or trick of the trade. The blog post should be 500 words or less. Be creative, showcase your educational prowess, and teach us something about a topic you are passionate about!

All applicants must be current residents in good standing at an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine program in the United States and be available to attend during all 3 conference days (October 13-15, 2015). Applicants should complete a brief online application and upload material through the online form below. The application process is open now.

Judging Criteria

Submissions will be judged on:

  1. Relevance (How relevant is this submission to EM education and/or clinical practice?)
  2. Innovation (How creative and innovative is this submission?)
  3. Design (How well is the information presented?)
  4. Content (How well did this candidate present the material with respect to clarity, conciseness, accuracy, references?)

Important Dates

  • Deadline for submissions: June 15, 2015 at 11:59 pm PST.
  • Fellowship winner announcement: August 1, 2015.
