Top 5 FOAM Radiology Resources: ALiEM Chief Resident Incubator Recommendations

figure_xray_5391There is no shortage of free open access medical education (FOAM) resources available to the current emergency medicine (EM) learner. It seems that no matter what the concept, FOAM has it covered. And radiology is no different. However, with a specialty as vast as radiology, finding educational material pertinent to the emergency practitioner can be overwhelming. The 2016-2017 ALiEM Chief Resident (CRincubator) class also encountered this when attempting to create an organized FOAM radiology curriculum for EM residents. To tackle this challenge, the chief residents have brought together the best online resources to help EM practitioners gain expertise in the field of radiology.

Top 10 Educational Initiatives from the Chief Resident Incubator

Chief Resident Incubator, known colloquially as the CRincubator, which for the first time brought together in one virtual space chief residents from EM programs coast to coast. The inaugural class used this opportunity to meet with mentors in EM, discuss difficult situations of being chief residents, and collaborate on projects in areas of education, wellness/public health, leadership and administration. As the academic year comes to an end we want to highlight the top 10 projects that were accomplished by chiefs involved in the CRincubator.

2016-17 ALiEM Chief Resident Incubator Launch: Top 5 Reasons to Join

Every year, without exception, a new set of chiefs will be chosen to replace the current group. They are always excited for the position, but hardly prepared for what’s to come. Last year, for the first time ever, over 200 Emergency Medicine Chief Residents were brought together and provided with opportunities to network, receive mentorship, and produce scholarship.

ALiEM Chief Resident Incubator Must Read EM Journal Articles – 2016 Edition

must read em journal articlesIn November 2013, the blog post 52 Articles in 52 weeks: Landmark EM Articles for EM interns was published on the ALiEM site. Over the subsequent years, many ground-breaking and practice-changing articles have been published. As part of a multi-institutional initiative launched by the ALiEM Chief Resident Incubator (“The Crincubator”), 9 chief residents from across the country pooled together lists of journal articles thought to be most important for the broad spectrum of EM learners. Additional input was obtained from FOAM leaders across the country including Dr. Ryan Radecki and Dr. Jeffrey Kline. These lists can be used by individuals for further learning or by residency programs for journal clubs.
