It is with distinct pleasure that we announce our newest ALiEM team member, Dr. Derek Monette. Derek is a senior EM resident at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency program, newsletter editor for the 2017-18 ALiEM Chief Resident Incubator, and made his EM Match Advice debut talking about changing specialties in EM. Today we announce that he has accepted the newest role as the 2017-18 ALiEM Deputy Editor in Chief (EIC).
After receiving numerous high-quality submissions, we are proud to announce the winner of the 2017 Essentials of Emergency Medicine (EEM) Education Fellowship Contest as Dr. Moises Gallegos from the Baylor Emergency Medicine residency program. His winning blog post is featured today on the pearls and pitfalls of epistaxis management. We look forward to seeing him in person in Las Vegas in May 2017 at the 3-day event as well as the Resident Wellness Consensus Summit preday.

A peer review process, in one form or another, has long been the de facto standard for academic publishing. In 2013, ALiEM was the first FOAM resource to initiate an attributed peer review process for all submitted content–effectively bringing a traditional standard to a new frontier of medical education.1 Since our expert peer review (EPR) program inception, reviewers have published critical appraisals alongside 114 ALiEM posts to date.
