YOUNG PHYSICIANS: 2015 ALiEM-AAEM Social Media and Digital Scholarship Fellowship for Young Physicians
HOT OFF THE PRESS! We would like to announce a great opportunity for young physicians who belong to the American Academy of Emergency Medicine’s Young Physicians Section (AAEM YPS). Based on the early successes of our 2014-15 ALiEM-EMRA (for medical students) and ALiEM-CORD (for residents) fellowships, we are thrilled to be launching the 2015 ALiEM-AAEM Social Media and Digital Scholarship Fellowship for Young Physicians! The application process for this virtual fellowship is now open.
Today, the ALiEM team presented the Medical Education in Cases (MEdIC) Series to the world at the 2014 International Conference on Residency Education. Along with student-researcher Daneilla Dmitri, I represented the team to describe the digitally engaging and educationally grounded environment that we have created in our monthly MEdIC cases. It was an honor to present our work at this international forum and to be featured as one of the Top 5 What Works presentations. In coordination with our presentation, we are releasing our first FREE MEdIC e-book!
In 2014 we published a list of the Most Followed #FOAMed Twitter Users (FOAM = Free Open Access Meducation). One observation, keenly pointed out by Dr. Nikita Joshi (@njoshi8), was the lack of female representation on the list. Separately, Dr. Esther Choo (@choo_ek) published a blog post entitled Women in Emergency Medicine Who Give Great Talks. As a follow up to our original post, here are the most ‘followed’ women on Twitter in the FOAM world.
In my 10+ years working in the ED, I’ve come across a few online FOAM resources (Free Open Access Meducation) that are essential to my practice. Inspired by ALiEM’s new How I Work Smarter series, I wanted to share these free tools in the hope that they may help you work smarter too, regardless of what your role is in the emergency management of patients.
This month marks our second ALiEM-Annals Resident’s Perspective discussion. Similar to the ALiEM-Annals Global EM Journal Club series and the first Resident’s Perspective piece on Multiple Mini Interviews, we will be discussing the most recent Annals of Emergency Medicine Resident’s Perspective piece on the Integration of Social Media in Emergency Medicine Residency Curriculum. In this inaugural post of the series “How I Work Smarter,” I wanted to share my thoughts and efforts towards working smarter and not always necessarily harder. I have been the Editor-in-Chief of ALIEM since 2009 where I first was only managing myself and now I working with an all-star team of very motivated and capable medical educators in EM.
